Why we wrote food for sensitive tummies

This book is for those of you who have suffered from winds, burps, cramps, heartburn, constipation and/ or diarrhoea as well as bloating! You are not alone. Although we do not know exactly how common IBS is in South Africa, we do know from our practical experience that there are many South Africans who do indeed have some sort of a sensitive tummy at some time or another. Having a sensitive tummy or super sensitive tummy (IBS, irritable bowel syndrome) can be one of the most debilitating health issues to deal with. Bloating, being one of the worst symptoms of them all! After all, who wants to walk around looking like they are four months pregnant when they really aren’t! Not only do sensitive tummy symptoms impact your daily life in terms of pain but it also may impact on your self-esteem and body image. Worst of all these symptoms tend to come and go when they please leaving you feeling out of control. Therefore we decided to write this book as trained registered dietitians as we would like to share our evidence based knowledge with you and we know how it feels to struggle with a tummy that feels out of control.

Although there is no cure for IBS or sensitive tummies we hope to help you learn how to cope with and manage your sensitive tummy! We also hope to shed some light on how the gut works as well as give you reliable information and practical tips on how to soothe your gut giving you the confidence you need to start managing your symptoms today! Be more aware of your individual triggers, after all, every one of us is our own unique person and what may work for one person may not work for another.
